Building Independent Futures: Solving Youth Homelessness

It is a staggering reality that, according to Centrepoint's 2024-25 impact report, more than 118,000 young people appealed to their local authorities for homelessness support in a single year—a 10% rise on the previous year. However, the crisis is not unsolvable. Centrepoint, the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity, is proving that with the right model, we can end youth homelessness for good.

Through their Independent Living Programme, Centrepoint is creating affordable, high-quality studio homes for young people aged 18–25 who are employed but priced out of the private rental market.

Dale Giving has committed £1.5 million to this initiative. Crucially, every pound given is matched, doubling the impact.

Each home costs £166,000 to build and will support 30 young people over its 60-year lifespan. The economics are as sound as the moral imperative: for every £1 invested, £3.04 is returned in economic benefit. Furthermore, 80% of residents successfully move on to stable employment and fully independent housing.

"We’re not just building homes," says Dale Wood. "We’re proving there is a solution to the housing crisis for young people. The model works, it’s sustainable, and it can be replicated — but only if the philanthropic community backs it."

Stay tuned: In the coming weeks, we will feature a guest article from Neil Child Dyer, Head of Independent Living Appeal at Centrepoint, detailing the profound difference this initiative is making.
